Learning Standards

As public education continues to evolve, we must strive to create standards that meet the needs of our students and give them a well- rounded education experience. However, the entire notion of standards can sometimes seem contrary to the concept of an individual education experience. Too often learning standards have taken the form of imposing strict requirements on how students learn, which in turn restricts learning opportunities as courses try to fit within standard requirements.

Over the past year, I have worked to craft alternate credit opportunity policy that will better bridge the gap between student’s personal lives and interests and their education. Policies such as these reduce
